Antiquorum and ‘Celebrate New York’ Charity Event

Jewelers for Children was well supported during their Celebrate New York auction that took place February 25, 2013. Thrown at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Pier, Antiquorum was one of the organizations biggest sponsors. The evening consisted of food, beverages, a silent and live auction.

Many brands came together to donate jewelry and other gifts that Jeweler’s for Children was able to auction off. The items available for the silent auction were from brands Antiquorum, Andy Castillo Art, RSP Media, Mia Sorelli Jewelry Design, International Gemological Institute and Jeweler’s Resource Bureau. Not only did Antiquorum offer a fabulous gift package, but their director, Michael Friedman, also hosted the live auction.

Friedman’s love for charity and talent as an auctioneer helped him sell products from a slew of companies. The live auction brands included John Hardy, Judith Ripka, Honora, Ashley & Emily, Scott Key and Michael Dawkins. All in all, Celebrate New York was a successful event that Antiquorum was happy to be involved in. Antiquorum stated that they were more than happy to help and will continue to support worthy causes.

The event allowed attendees to feel good about their purchases because all the money went to help children in need through different organizations. The funds received were split between St. Judes Children’s Hospital, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Make-A-Wish and CASA. And thanks to brands such as Antiquorum, the attendees left with high quality, luxury items. That makes this event a win-win for everyone involved.

Peek at the Monaco Full Black-ACM Calibre 12

If you like your chronographs square and your watches full of flair, the Monaco Full Black- ACM Calibre 12, by TAG Heuer, should be at the top of your list for the most anticipated finds of 2013.

The second in the ACM Monaco line, the Monaco Full Black follows closely on the heels of its predecessor, introduced in 2012.  Sleek angled and gleaming from a standard stainless steel case, silvered dashes reach beyond the dial to suggest a broader and bolder feel, not contained by its physical state, perhaps mirrored in the abstract that it measures: time.

Taking the orange highlighted in the first edition and muting it to a single dash on the seconds hand, the Monaco Full Black ACM Calibre 12 appears as slightly more grand and sophisticated model.  Pulling silver, black and white together in a classicly updated design, this timepiece easily portrays itself and its wearer as on the cutting edge of not just fashion, but of life.  The shining hands streak across the face in a slash of lightning like allure, bringing an intensity and urgency to the immovable march of time.

Dashing Entry of TAG Heuer New Favorite Chonograph
Dashing Entry of TAG Heuer New Favorite Chonograph

TAG Heuer has ensured in the soft alligator strap an added dash of texture needed in this otherwise smooth surfaced masterpiece.   This functions as well to provide extraordinary comfort even in the height of fashion.  Resistant to water, extreme temperature and external environment, the sturdiness of this piece is incomparable.   The robustness, precision and integrity of all TAG Heuer watches undergo thorough testing under extreme conditions to obtain a guarantee that they are both safe to wear and to be worn when out and about.

Not set to be officially introduced until May at the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix, there is plenty of time to anticipate this outstanding Swiss creation, and to decide how best to debut your very own at the peak of the season.  A beautiful looking watch, the Monaco Full Black will surely exceed expectations of chronographs and rises to a class all its own.

Obama Makes Trend of Classic Affordable Watch from Jorg Gray

When President Barack Obama received a Jorg Gray 6500 Chronograph watch for his birthday a few years ago, it quickly became the most popular and sought-after watch of his early presidency. Given as a gift for his 46th birthday by the Secret Service, the case back is sealed with the Secret Service logo. President Obama has been seen wearing the Jorg Gray on many occasions, whether conducting state business or just relaxing with his family. For a previously obscure brand of corporate gift watches, this endorsement by the president had launched Jorg Gray into a major watch brand. The company has even released a commemorative edition line of 6500 Chronographs stamped with “The 44th President of the United States Barack H. Obama January 20th 2009” on the case back.  For $325 the average Joe can own a commemorative edition of the president’s watch, surely an irresistible addition to any watch collector’s compilation.

Jorg Gray 6500
Jorg Gray 6500

The 6500 Chronograph is styled after vintage aviation/pilot watches, as can be seen by the contrasting black and white colors on the hands, hour markers, and other features. The case is measured at 41mm with a 14.1mm thickness. The case and bezel are stainless steel, while the dial face is black against the luminant-coated white hour markers and hands. The 12 o’clock marker is a triangle, that of a typical pilot’s watch. The watch lens is made from a scratch-resistance high impact mineral crystal and the piece is water resistant to 100 meters. An interesting aspect  of the mineral crystal is the style in which it is slightly domed, which allows for a mild lens affect. The lens is also coated with an anti-reflective agent the sometimes makes light reflect blue off the crystal; this ensures the dial always remains clear and crisp.

The chronograph for the Jorg Gray 6500 is a high precision Japanese Mioyota chronograph quartz movement. Manufactured by Citizen Watch Co. in Japan, the chronograph is quick to use and measures in one-second increments. Both the pushers and the crown are designed for maximum comfort and ease of use. The crown itself has the letters “JG” for the Jorg Gray logo embossed on it. There are three sub-dials on the piece; the left sub-dial tracks minutes, the low center sub-dial tracks seconds, and the right dial is a 24-hour clock that has been designed for international travel. Lastly, the date window rests at an angle in between the 4 o’clock and 5 o’clock markers.

It is also interesting to note that each piece of this series comes with a serial number, a rarity to find in watches of this price range that have been largely produced. Aside from being the Commander in Chief’s watch, this is another nice touch that will encourage collectors. The Jorg Gray 6500 is also designed for comfort; the case is meant to sit well on the wrist and the sides are done in a sleek satin finish. The black strap is Italian buffalo leather that features a distressed look and has contrast stitching, which is popular among the aviation style watches. The buckle is in stainless steel and includes the Jorg Gray logo in laser etching.

Celebrities Talk Love of Raymond Weil

Raymond Weil Luxe Creations
Raymond Weil’s  Luxe Creations

On January 15, 2013, Raymond Weil and Labyrinth Theater came together to celebrate their annual Celebrity Charades night. Celebrities gathered to form four teams that would help gain support for the Labyrinth. The celebrities also celebrated Raymond Weil, a brand extremely supportive of the arts.

There are two phrases that every celebrity had to say about their new Raymond Weil watch: beautiful and love it! The watches could be seen on the likes of Sam Rockwell, Sasha Cohen, S. Epatha Merkerson, Richard Kind and Rosie Perez.

The women loved the watches, not only for their beauty, but because of how they were made. Actress Elizabeth Rodriguez noted how the rose gold complimented her skin tone perfectly while Callie Thorn wanted to marry hers. Raymond Weil’s women’s watches had diamonds, warm tones and had a feminine – dainty – quality. In fact, Daphne Rubin Vega was happy to be able to tell time ‘in a pretty way.’

While the celebrity men also admired the look of Raymond Weil’s watches, they were drawn to other qualities. Athlete Eddie George knew enough about the brand to state that it is a Swiss watch with each piece individually handcrafted. Josh Charles and Bobby Cannavale both noted that their watches had a sporty appeal, which they both appreciated. Two more actors who were humbled and made speechless by the quality of Raymond Weil were David Zavas and Billy Crudup. Perhaps one of the best reviews of the night was made by Michael Shannon. Shannon loved the machinery and symmetry of his watch, stating it made him feel like “a dapper man about town.”

Raymond Weil not only promotes art, but inspiration. The brand states in their motto that it is inspired by precision. The Labyrinth Theater and celebrities involved all need inspiration much like Raymond Weil to do their artform, so Weil asked each what their inspiration was. Answers included: excellence, great stories, dark chocolate and passion among others. These pieces of inspiration are all things that Raymond Weil can stand behind, which is why these celebrities have no problem wearing – and loving- the brand.

Movado’s Ambassadors

Written by: Jason Garoutte

Movado watches represent style, simplicity, luxury, and sophistication. It’s no wonder their brand ambassadors are also stylish and sophisticated.

Some of the most successful people in today’s generation, having climbed the ladder of success (and then some), are representatives of the brand. These names include the likes of Derek Jeter, Lily Collins, and Wynton Marsalis.

Lily Collins was born in England and is most famously known for her acting career in films such as “The Blind Side,” “Priest,” and “Mirror Mirror.” What most people don’t know is that she is the daughter of legendary musician Sir Phil Collins.

Lily Collins was chosen at a young age by Chanel to wear one of their gowns at the 2007 Bal des Debutantes (a charity ball.) Her style, grace, and exquisite beauty radiate the style that is Movado.

Derek Jeter is quite possibly the most recognizable name in baseball, if not all of sports. He brings an entire new level of play to baseball and his awards prove that. He has played 18 seasons- all with the New York Yankees. In that time, he has won five World Series, been selected as an All-Star 13 times, received five Golden Glove awards, received five Silver Slugger awards, received two Hank Aaron awards, and has grasped the coveted Roberto Clemente award.

He is the all-time Yankees career leader in hits (3,304), games played (2,585), stolen bases (348), and at bats (10,551). He is also the 28th player in Major League Baseball history to accumulate 3,000 hits.

His accolades alone prove success and it’s no wonder Movado has sought after him to reflect their own level of success.

Wynton Marsalis is a celebrated Movado brand ambassador. He is an internationally acclaimed musician, composer, and bandleader. Wynston has nine Grammy Awards and is the only artist to have won a Grammy in five consecutive years. In 1997 Wynton Marsalis became the first jazz musician ever to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music for his epic oratorio “Blood on the Fields.”

In 1987 Wynton Marsalis co-founded a jazz program at Lincoln Center and in July 1996, due to its remarkable success, Jazz at Lincoln Center was installed as a new constituent of Lincoln Center, the renowned arts organization of which Movado is a long standing sponsor and proud supporter.

Movado brings a new class of elegance and success to its fine watchmaking which is understandably why these ambassadors and few others can only be represented by such a remarkable company.
