Cartier Watches Are Legendary

Cartier stands for luxury

Cartier is world-renowned for their superior craftsmanship.  Their Watches exude style and success, and the wearer feels certain they have chosen a quality timepiece.  Since the mid 1800’s Cartier has been creating breathtaking jewelry and watches.  As they expanded through Europe, Cartier became increasingly popular and in 1902, after gaining the appreciation of many royals, Cartier was named “Jeweler of Kings”.

Modern-day Cartier is no less respected.  The company has evolved and kept up with the times, while remaining one of the world’s premier watchmakers.  In 2002, Cartier celebrated its 100 birthday by unveiling the Santos 100.

The Santos series was named after a friend of Louis Cartier, who had complained about the unreliability of pocket-watches.  His comment was answered with the release of the first men’s wrist-watch in 1902.  The Brazilian aviator, Alberto Santos-Dumont can be thanked for the Cartier Santos line.

This series comes in a variety of combinations, but my favorite is the stainless-steel and gold version, with brown leather strap.  The W20091X7 men’s gold and steel watch makes a bold statement.  The contrasting polished steel, with gold accents set against the rich brown strap, is a handsome mix.

Whichever Cartier you choose, make sure it’s authentic.  Here are a few tips.  Cartier watches are very heavy, make sure the watch is weighty.  Drop a bead of water on the glass, it should roll right off and not smear.  Check that the serial number is engraved on the back or side of the watch, and finally, open the case back.  Genuine Cartier watches will have the name “Cartier” engraved on the movement.  Bottom line, this is a high-quality watch you want to pass on to your children, don’t get ripped off.

Breitling, Watches With Integrity

Breitling, precision timepieces

In 1884 Mr. Breitling founded his watch company, although he would be appalled if he heard me call it that.  Breitling’s vision held a scope far beyond making timepieces…he wanted to create precision instruments for professionals.  Instruments such as chronographs and stop watches for aviators were the first pieces Breitling put out.

In the early 1900’s wristwatches became more mainstream and Breitling was the first to offer a wrist-worn chronograph.  In fact, Breitling was the inventor of the push-piece, a separate part that would operate the chronographic features of the watch.  The push-piece would start, stop, and reset the stop watch function, with a single button.

The company’s innovation and dedication to excellence has maintained its reputation, and continues to come up with amazing watches.  The models include the Navitimer, the Windrider, the Professional, and the Aeromarine.    All of these models are offered in various styles, but none of them are ordinary watches…they art technological works of art.

If precision and accuracy are on the top of your list of priorities, a Breitling watch is the cream of the crop.  The company warns not to attempt to purchase a Breitling on the internet.  The watches offered on the web may not be authentic and if you want the real deal, you must buy from an authorized dealer.

By the way, please check out their website…it is full of information and as impressive as their impeccably crafted instruments.

Audemars Piguet Millenary Carbon One Tourbillon Mens Watch

Here is your first glance at the newest addition to the collection of men’s luxury watches by Audemars Piguet. The Millenary Carbon One Tourbillon Chronograph will make its debut at the 2010 SIHH (Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie) industry exhibition in Geneva during January 19 – 23. This watch will be made in a limited editions series of 120 pieces.Audemars Millenary Carbon

This new watch by AP, as the company is known in the industry, shows a mixture of haute horlogerie skills using contemporary new materials. This is perfect example of a cutting-edge watch on many levels, including the following: the entire case is made from forged carbon (as seen already in many of AP’s popular Royal Oak Offshore models) and the highly complex movement is entirely produced by Audemars. The design is three dimensional and gives off a sense of power and military might, yet the watch itself is light weight.

The case of the Millenary Carbon One Tourbillon Chronograph measures 37.40 mm x 32.40 mm. The carbon composite which is used in the case is made by injecting carbon nanofibers at very high pressures and temperature, resulting in a light weight but very stable material. The contrasting look created between the carbon case and the bezel, crown and chronograph push pieces, which are made from shiny black ceramic, is exceptional.

The dial is open allowing the wearer to see the sporty red and white indications. Under these are finely beveled bridges made from eloxed aluminum and blackened steel. This look, along with the contrasting features above are what create the three dimensional illusion.

The caseback is made from blackened titanium and the dial side view allows one to see the “one-minute tourbillon complication, as well as the two parallel-coupled barrels which produce a consistent flow of power to the mechanism for a full 10 days; the status of the reserve is shown via an indicator scale and corresponding hand at the 9 o’clock position.”

Although Audemars Piguet has not released a price ye for this new men’s watch, the company’s press statement says that about two weeks of work go into the assembly of each 2884 caliber, three days of which alone are spent perfecting and completing timing adjustments to the tourbillon regulator and its 80 precisely interacting components of these Millenary Carbon One Tourbillon Chronographs.

The strap is made from hand-sewn crocodile leather and comes with a folding clasp made from blackened titanium and with the initials of AP. The watch is water resistant up to 20 meters.

Nekta Diamond Watches for Men & Women

Nekta believes that men’s watches should have diamonds too. Typically, consumers and brands associate diamonds with women, after all, who hasn’t heard the saying “diamonds are a girl’s best friend?”nekta-empire

Nekta Watch Company has come out with a diamond men’s watch (see first picture). Although it is slightly feimine looking, perhaps due to the strap color, the Nekta Empire SS & Diamond Men’s Watch is proof that men today are confident enough of their manhood that they don’t mind and in fact, want to wear some bling. When watches come with diamonds they are known as jewelry watches and this is a great example of that as well. Both the case and the bezel are filled with and studded with diamonds

The stainless steel case measures two inches wide by 13/4 thick and comes with an interchangeable leather strap, so of the blue is too much for you, you can select a darker color band. Other features of this watch include a Guilloche engraved dial with Arabic numerals in a yellow-green color. The face of the watch reveals three metallic sub-dials to indicate the day of the week, alarm and the date, which is located at 4 o’clock position.

Of course, Nekta would not forget to make women’s luxury watches as well and that’s what you see pictured here.

nekta-magicThe Nekta Magic SS & Diamond Watch - MG1. The rose stainless steel case measures 39mm x 47mm and there is a total of 148 diamonds, weighing 2.50 carats that adorn the bezel. The dial is also rose colored and the minute indicators are black, making for a great contrast. The Roman numerals 4, 8 and 12 are peach colored. The subdial is done in mother of pearl and has luminous hands. A date window is located at 4 o’clock, while a red seconds hand with a rounded peach pointer rotates around it. This watch is water resistant up to 330 feet and perhaps the best news? It’s quite a steal at $5,160.

Nekta is a family run business and one of the very few that are based in the U.S. The flagship store is located in Times Square in New York City.

The 2009 Conquistador Grand Prix of Singapore by Franck Muller

What a name: The 2009 Conquistador Grand Prix of Singapore, for quite a watch. The world premiere of this luxury watch by Franck Muller has quite a unique style. Frank Muller

The case is made from titanium and ergal (performance enhanced high-tech aluminum alloy), from titanium and 18K rose gold and from pink gold with a blackened titanium bezel. The use of ergal merits special mention because due to its being ultra-light and highly robust, it is commonly used in the Formula 1 racing industry as well as the aerospace industry. So the fact that Frank Muller incorporated in into his watch is innovative and really ties the timepiece to the event for which it was created.

Franck Muller produced a series of these 2009 Singapore Grand Prix chronographs, 80 of which are made from titanium (as shown in the first picture), 80 in rose gold and titanium (second image) and six very exclusive pieces made from pink gold with blackened titanium bezel (last picture). The watches measure 48mm wide by 62mm in length and 14 mm in thickness. The crystal is sapphire and the caseback has an engraving of the logo of the 2009 Singapore Grand Prix on it.

Frank Muller2At first glance you can tell there is no other watch that this one can be compared to. The black and red contrast (including the strap) and the large numbers on the dial, give this watch a serious, dark, but glamorous look. The idea behind this look no doubt comes from the event that this watch, along with others, commemorates.

The Singapore Grand Prix is the only race within the FIA Formula 1 World Championship that takes place at nighttime. Therefore, this Franck Muller watch (of which there are three styles) illustrates the concept of “dark speed.”

Although the race has already taken place, it was held from September 25 – 27, the watch lives on. As with many race car driving events, the Singapore Grand Prix drew in large numbers of people; an estimated 100,000 live spectators and about 110 million that watched it on TV.Frank Muller3

Limited Edition Moonstruck Watch by Ulysse Nardin

Ulysse Nardin founded his watch company in 1846 and became well known for manufacturing marine chronometers which merchant and military ships relied upon for accuracy when navigating the seas. Over time the company also began to produce complicated mechanical watches and set a world record in 1986 for making the world’s most complicated wristwatch. Called the Astrolabium, this watch was named after the device used by astronomer Galileo. The watch displays both local and solar time, the orbits and eclipses of the sun and the moon as well as the positions of certain stars.UN_Moonstruck

Since then Ulysse Nardin has produced many watches that feature astrology, hence its new Moonstruck model. This limited edition Moonstruck watch imitates the rotation of the moon around the earth by using two discs to revolve around the map of the earth that is located in the center of the watch. The moon itself also makes revolutions that present the different phases of the moon.

Following suit with large watches being all the rage, the Moonstruck model weighs in at 46mm and 16.3mm thick, allowing ample space for the complexity of the movement. This watch also features a GMT hand, which allows the wearer to track a second time zone. Even though it’s made from either gold or platinum, it’s not fragile and is water resistant up to 100 meters.  The 18k red gold edition comes in 500 pieces as does the platinum version.

Other outrageous Ulysse Nardin watch designs include the Genghis Khan Haute Joaillerie model and the San Marco Cloisonné watch. While most Ulysse Nardin watches are men’s watches, there is a substantial collection of women’s watches as well which include the Lady Diver Starry Night, the Golden Dream, the Michelangelo Lady and the Dual Time Ladies among many other gorgeous and unique selections.
